Greenkeeper’s Report April 2026
Bowls report for April 2026
We unfortunately experienced a very difficult winter, regularly wet and overcast. This resulted in high concentrations of moss and weak growth.
As a result, this Spring is starting off as a bit of a slow burner however all will come good, I promise.
The back end of March we successfully carried out renovations which included the cutting height reduced to 11mm, two-way scarification, solid tine aeration, overseeding with fescue and top dressing with 4 tonnes of eco mix. The green has now been dragged and switched several times. A cold start granular fertiliser has also now been applied.
The cutting height was then reduced to 8mm. I intend to reduce this further for a 5mm cutting height for open day.
The irrigation system has been primed and audited with no issues to report.
As temperatures rise during April I will be applying the first wetting agent plus seaweed. When solid growth is achieved, I will also start to verti-cut/groom the surface, this will remove the last of the dead moss and produce a true surface.
I intend to carryout regular hand watering this season to assist the irrigation system as and when needed.
I hope you are looking forward to the playing season and I thank you for all your support.
Rick.
